RID Conference
IDP PRE-CONFERENCE
INDIGENOUS* INTERPRETERS
IN THE CLASSROOM
*Occurring or living naturally in an area; not introduced; native.
-The American Heritage Dictionary-
Join us for a discussion exploring the dynamics of indigenous interpreters (m/f deaf and Deaf) in the classroom. Deaf participants and Interpreters with Deaf parents bring a different set of experiences to the classroom. What are some of the issues we face as instructors, and they face as learners in a traditional learning environment? What do we need to think about to make these learning environments more enriching for all of us?
Join us in exploring this topic through discussion, small group work and hands on exercises.

What impact does the interpreting field have on the Deaf community?
We’ve changed, the Deaf community has changed,
the interpreting profession has changed and our relationship has changed.
It’s time to come together and look at the big picture.
Where do we go from here?
We present this dialogue as a first step in engaging EVERYONE
in the questions that need to be asked.
